A short history of Cal Marine Electronics:
Cal Marine Electronics is the longest established company specializing in marine electronics in the San Francisco Bay . Founded in 1952 by two enterprising boaters, Bob Flowerman and Bob Gifford, Cal Marine Radiophone Company quickly made a name for itself for quality service amongst the commercial operators along San Francisco 's waterfront and throughout the bay.
Today Cal Marine Electronics is led by two industry veterans, Fred King and Rich Wilde. Rich has been in the marine electronics industry for more than 50 years. His early career was in the R&D department of the marine electronics division at Raytheon, which is now known as RayMarine. In 1978 he purchased the Cal Marine Radiophone Company. By 1984 Rich had changed the name to Cal-Marine Electronics Corporation to reflect the widening array of marine electronics products that his growing company was offering. Rich loves boats, and has sailed the San Francisco Bay from the St. Frances Yacht Club for most of his life. Long time sailboat racers will remember American Express, Rampage, Tempest and Buccaneer, which Rich campaigned throughout the 1970s, ‘80s, and into the ‘90s. Rich is married and has two grown daughters.
Prior to joining Cal Marine Electronics, Fred had more than two decades experience in high technology electronic design, product management, marketing/sales, and business development. While building a career in high technology, Fred spend much of his spare time sailing San Francisco Bay . As General Manager and owner of Cal Marine, Fred combines his passion for boats and boating with seasoned electronics and business knowledge. Fred is married and has three children who enjoy sailing and bareboat cruising. Fred also has bluewater experience, crossing from Hawaii to San Francisco as part of the '02 Pac Cup.
